The Museum of History Benicia (MoHB) presents Cecelia Peña, a 5th generation Peña, and her work on the Empowerment of the Peña family through education and land ownership.
Nestora (Peña) Rivera, (1836-1922) the youngest Peña child and only girl, came to Laguna Valley in 1841 with her parents and brothers. A Benicia St. Catherine’s Convent graduate, she purchased her father’s adobe and 900 hundred acres of land at 23 years old and in 1859 when California was barely a state. Peña and two of her brothers became ranching barons and successfully transitioned into fruit farming. Let’s examine this story of success.
October 21st from 11:30 - 12:30 at the Arsenal Gallery 2060 Camel Rd. - Talk included with museum admission. See you at the Museum!
