President’s Report 2020

SEPTEMBER 25, 2020
BHM ANNUAL MEETING – REPORT BY PRESIDENT MIKE CAPLIN

I think it’s hard to say how 2020 will be described in history books decades from now but I’m sure we all know that people will look back on this time as one of unprecedented challenges that faced each and every one of us.

The Benicia Historical Museum was no exception and we were forced to close our doors to the public back in March of this year. The far reaching ramifications of the COVID-19 pandemic have created huge obstacles for the Museum’s Director and staff but I am proud to say that we have met those challenges with new and creative programs and ideas as we look to the future!

Our Executive Director and staff have been continuously working on a number of our permanent exhibits – all the while carefully following COVID-19 protocols with social distancing and sanitation procedures.

Facility improvements have been made in the kitchen area of Stone Hall by the City of Benicia.

Lastly, our Executive Director, Elizabeth D’Huart and our summer intern, Dean Putong – a Senior at Yale University, have produced five outstanding podcasts that we have labeled “COVID Quarantine Camelcasts”. I have tuned in to all of them and thoroughly enjoyed every minute! I invite you to do the same by visiting the Museum’s website.

All of these efforts are made with you, our valuable members, in mind as we move past this most difficult time and look to reopen even better and stronger. Here’s wishing all of you happier times ahead!
